Karla Giraldo, Councilman Hiram Monserrate’s girlfriend whose cut to her face led to the Councilman’s arrest, gave an exclusive interview to Resumen News, the Spanish language paper to which she contributes entertainment articles. She offers this explanation of the events of that night, according to District Leader Martha Flores-Vasquez.
“I laid down on the right side of the bed, I was half asleep and I felt that he stumbled over something in the room, I was startled, and we stumbled into each other. I felt the water on my body and saw the blood on my face, He was so scared he said “baby your cut, lets go to the hospital.” When he said that to me, I got more nervous knowing that my face was cut, we left the apartment, he grabbed my arm, and we got into the car and went to the hospital. I told him that I didn’t want to go to a hospital in Queens, but that I wanted to go to the Long Island hospital that has a plastic surgeon. We got to the emergency room; the police then got there and took my boyfriend away under arrest. When I saw this I insisted various times that he should not be arrested, up until that moment I did not understand why they arrested him.”

Abuse of power when it is clear and difine by the victim, that the accused is not guilty!

Unfortunately for State Senator-elect Monserrate, the incident occured on a slow news day. The media went hog-wild with zero investigative research into the other side of the story, reporting only the superficial part of the news that fell into their laps. Finally, an obscure newspaper has started to publish the detailed facts. More info contradicting the initial hysteria will follow I am sure.
